Although nationally revered in his own lifetime (and known to three prime ministers), his true worth as a gifted chronicler of the rural and industrial lives of the people of north Wiltshire in the 19th and 20th centuries is yet to be fully recognised.
Poet, author, historian, linguist, naturalist, folk song collector, philosopher, scholar... he is a many-faceted character who continues to speak to generations long removed from his own time. But he is surely destined to speak louder still, as time passes - starting with this website. More...
