Previously unpublished poem added to website
This website now features a previously unpublished poem by Alfred Williams - believed to be the first time this has happened in the 80 years since his death.
The Furnaceman is thought to date from the last four years of his life and gives a vivid description of the work he himself was involved in during the 22 years he worked for the Great Western Railway in Swindon.
The transcription of all of Alfred's published works is a long-term aim of the Alfred Williams Heritage Society, but we also want to make previously unpublished works available online.
The Furnaceman survives on two typewritten sheets that are part of the Alfred Williams archive at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
