Meet our new poetry critic
Swindon poet Cristina Newton is passing a critical eye over Alfred's poetry, exclusively for this website.
She is well known to local poets as the organiser of The Battered Moons Poetry Competition, which formed part of the prestigious Swindon Festival of Literature. She writes poetry in English and her native Spanish, but is a newcomer to Alfred's work.
One of the Society's aims is to transcribe and upload all of Alfred's poems, and through our Poem of the Day feature, this is being done one poem at a time. Poems are selected to provide a range of styles.
Those online are listed alphabetically. To begin with, only the text of each poem is featured, but Cristina's commentaries will also be added to certain poems as they are completed, along with background information about the poem. The first poem to get this treatment was All Things Delight in Sleep.
In other words, the information provided varies from poem to poem, until we reach our long-term goal of uploading all the poems and providing maximum information.
